Something I've always wondered is why pencil skirts are called pencil skirts. Yeah-they're fitted and slim like a pencil, but why not give them a more practical name? When I go to buy a skirt, I don't have the shape of a pencil in mind when I'm shopping. If skinny jeans are skinny and flared jeans are flared, can we not call pencil skirts "skinny skirts" because that just makes 10000000x more sense?
Pencil (skinny) skirts are some of the easiest things to pair tops with-from a tucked in blouse, peplum top, tank and a cardigan, to pretty much anything you can name, even (to stick to the theme) a skinny tee. In the first outfit, this easy grey cotton pencil skirt is paired with a solid, bright color blouse with jewel detailing. Because of the neutral color of the skirt, almost any color blouse will go well with it, but what we love about this Gracia turquoise top is not only the beautiful detailing on the collar, but the pleated back of the shirt, which is a nice change from the plain blouse collection we all have tucked away in our closets. A simple necklace adds to the outfit, but nothing too bold to outshine the collar. Throw on some arm candy in a complimentary color to the blouse, such as this red jeweled bangle and bow bracelet, and | add a neutral bag and you'reready to go! In the second look, we paired a simple black peplum top with a boldly patterned pencil skirt. Peplum tops are an essential go-to for many outfits because they are extremely flattering and can go with just about every type of bottom you can think of. Because of the loudness of the skirt, accessories are much more minimalistic than other outfits. A skinny red belt to further accentuate the waist of the top, a simple colored necklace, gold La Mer watch, and white ring are simple enough that they don't detract form the skirt. Lastly, with the new Izzy and Ali bags in, we had to add one to this post! The olive color subtly compliments the skirt and has a detachable chain to turn this clutch into a cross-body bag! |
